BIG Therapy
BIG is a type of Parkinson’s Disease therapy that features repetitive high-amplitude movements. This therapy has demonstrated improvements in Parkinson’s symptoms when compared to Nordic skiing (standard therapy) and a control group. BIG training increases the size or “bigness” of limb and body movement.
After Therapy
BIG exercises are designed to be continued after discharge. People can choose to continue the therapy either at home or at Bradley Wellness Center or a local gym. It is essential to continue performing the exercises obtained in therapy seven days a week to maintain, and even improve upon the benefits. This is the “BIG for life” component.
Additional Resources
“Tune-ups” are two week BIG programs in the clinic designed to facilitate continued performance after discharge. If you enjoy being around people, the Bradley Wellness Center offers stationary bicycling and a Parkinson’s Disease specific class with everything from dancing to boxing in an effort to assist you in your maintenance program.
