Carlos Peñaherrera, MD

Carlos Peñaherrera, MD, is an endocrinologist at Hamilton Diabetes and Endocrinology Center in Dalton, Georgia and Hamilton Health-Calhoun. He speaks both English and Spanish. Dr. Peñaherrera attended medical school at the University Católica de Santiago de Guayaquil in Guayaquil, Ecuador, completed his residency training in internal medicine at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, New Jersey, and his fellowship in endocrinology at the University of Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida.
Dr. Peñaherrera treats patients with type I, type II, and gestational diabetes, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, thyroid Nodules, hypoglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, metabolic syndrome, adrenal and pituitary gland disease, parathyroid disease, polycystic ovarian syndrome, osteoporosis, etc. He chose endocrinology as his specialty because “Endocrinology caught my attention very early in my training,” says Dr. Peñaherrera. Studying the physiology of the endocrine system seemed like the most interesting thing to me.” In his spare time, Dr. Peñaherrera enjoys watching movies with his family, watching and playing soccer, as well as playing the guitar and the ukulele.
