Hamilton Medical Center, part of Hamilton Health Care System, recently introduced a new da Vinci Surgical Robot into service.
Currently, 13 surgeons use the da Vinci Surgical Robot for procedures. More than 1,800 robotic surgeries have been performed at HMC.
HMC upgraded to the advanced Xi system, which is designed to enhance the patient experience and result in shorter hospital stays. Because robotic surgery requires minimal incisions, patients experience less trauma to the body, minimal scarring and faster recovery time.
“We’re very excited about our new da Vinci Xi system,” said Judean Bowling, Surgical Services director. “This advanced surgical option is part of our commitment to serving our patients with cutting-edge technology for excellent outcomes.”
The da Vinci Xi Surgical System is the fourth generation in da Vinci technology. The surgeon is 100 percent in control of the system, which translates hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside the patient’s body.
The System can be used across a number of surgical procedures. At HMC, the robot is used for hysterectomies, abdominal hernias, inguinal hernias, prostatectomies, nephrectomies, cholecystectomies and colon resections.
