DALTON, Ga. – Kathleen Smith, LPN for Hamilton Home Health, and Michael Jackson, access coordinator for Westcott Behavioral Health, were recently recognized as a Hamilton Heroes. Hamilton Hero recipients are associates who unselfishly perform a deed of meritorious service during a life-saving event that exceeds the scope of his or her job.
Recently, Smith discovered that a house that she was driving by was on fire. She pounded on the door and got the person – who was asleep – out of the house. She also got a dog out, moved a truck away to safety and called the Fire Department in time to keep the house from being a total loss.
Jackson was nominated for the award for taking action when, late at night, he received information on a teen who was depressed and had intentionally overdosed in an apparent suicide attempt.
Having very little to act upon, Jackson called various people to establish the teen’s location. In the process, Jackson involved three different police agencies. After many calls, the teen was located, and an ambulance and police officers were dispatched. Jackson then went to meet with the teen and the teen’s mother.
