Rodovaldo Rodriguez, Jr., MD, FACS

Rod Rodriguez, MD, FACS, is a board-certified general surgeon and breast specialist with Hamilton Physician Group-General Surgery.

Dr. Rodriguez is a board-certified general surgeon (American Board of Surgery) and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) with over 30 years of experience in complex abdominal surgery and a broad range of general surgical procedures, including advanced laparoscopic techniques. He earned his medical degree from Morehouse School of Medicine and completed his general surgery residency at Rush University Medical Center. As Chairman of the Department of Surgery, he spearheaded Hamilton Medical Center’s participation in the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP), a nationally recognized program that tracks surgical outcomes and benchmarks performance to improve patient safety. His experience as NSQIP Surgeon Champion inspired him to pursue a Master’s in Patient Safety and Healthcare Quality (MAS-PSHQ) from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

He led the creation of, and currently chairs, the Surgical Quality and Safety Committee at Hamilton Medical Center. He also serves on Hamilton Medical Center’s Professional Practice Evaluation Committee (PPEC). Dr. Rodriguez is an associate professor of surgery at PCOM and MCG, serving as lead surgery preceptor for MCG’s Dalton campus. He has received numerous accolades for teaching excellence and, in 2013, was honored with the Georgia Hospital Association’s Hospital Hero Award for his humanitarian work at home and abroad.

A pioneer in surgical quality initiatives, Dr. Rodriguez led his team in implementing a bundle that reduced colectomy surgical site infections to the lowest rates in Georgia. He has expertise with the DaVinci Xi robot for colectomies, hernia repairs, and adrenalectomies, combining innovative technology with patient-centered, evidence-based care. He is also the founder and Medical Director of the DEO Clinic, providing free healthcare to underserved populations and exemplifying his dedication to both surgical excellence and community service.
