Students in the Medical Assistant program at Genesis Career College recently toured the lab at Hamilton Medical Center (HMC) to expand their studies in the medical field.
The students visited HMC’s phlebotomy, chemistry, pathology and microbiology labs, as well as the blood bank, where lab associates were on hand to answer the students’ questions.
A 24/7 operation, HMC’s lab performs approximately 820,000 procedures per year. The lab offers general clinical laboratory, pathology and phlebotomy services and employs 34 technical staff members and 31 non-technical staff members.
To support HMC’s Level II trauma Emergency Department and Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) the lab has a full-service blood bank that is certified by The Joint Commission, the Food and Drug Administration and the American Association of Blood Banks.
