Victoria Gilbert, DO, says she chose to become a doctor because it combines two of her favorite things: science and people.
“I also like the complexity and diversity of internal medicine,” she says. “You get to see a little of every problem patients can have. There are always new treatments on the horizon in internal medicine. It’s an everchanging field.”
Gilbert, an internal medicine physician, is practicing at Hamilton Physician Group (HPG) – Calhoun Campus in Calhoun and HPG – Murray in Chatsworth.
She attended medical school at the University of Pikeville – Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pikeville, Ky. She recently completed her residency training in internal medicine at Hamilton Health Care System.
Gilbert says that getting to take care of others is one of the greatest privileges and rewards of being a physician. “I find joy in taking care of my patients and getting to know them,” she says. Her approach toward treating a new patient is treating them as your own family and treating them how you would want your family treated.
Gilbert treats conditions that adults over 18 could have. Some of the most common conditions she treats are hypertension, thyroid disease, diabetes, obesity and any acute illness.
Hamilton holds a special place for her because that is where she started her career as a resident physician in internal medicine. Hamilton has given her the opportunity to return home, Gordon County, where she is excited to give back to the community that raised her.
When not practicing medicine, she enjoys spending time with her husband and son. She also enjoys spending time outdoors. “We like to get out and play soccer, tennis or basketball,” she says.
