DALTON, Ga. (October 31, 2025) – When Dalton resident Susan Toney began therapy at Regency Park Health and Rehabilitation (part of Vitruvian Health), she felt doubtful.
“I wasn’t optimistic going in,” Toney said, “but it changed.”
Toney, 75, received services at Regency from July to August after a series of falls that injured her hip and left her disoriented and in pain – on top of dealing with kidney failure. She required physical, occupational and speech therapy twice a day.
Knowing she was at high risk for falls, the staff also noted challenges with balance and confidence during everyday activities. By the time Toney was discharged, her hesitancy had turned to confidence and enthusiasm.

“Her progress reflects a strong and inspiring commitment to regaining independence and reconnecting with her environment,” said Cherryl Ladd Berdos-Roser, director of Rehab Services at Regency. “One thing I truly admired about Ms. Toney’s participation in the healing and rehabilitation process was her consistent commitment and positive attitude.”
Berdos-Roser said Toney brought a sense of determination to every session, even on days when progress felt slow or challenging. “That,” Berdos-Roser said, “was key to her success. Her willingness to actively engage in exercises, ask questions and apply feedback demonstrated a strong sense of ownership over her recovery. It was inspiring to see how she celebrated small milestones, which not only boosted her morale but also encouraged others around her.”
Today, Toney advises anyone going through a similar challenge to believe change is possible. Her walking has improved, she feels more confident getting around, and she’s experienced kindness that stayed with her.
“I am really thankful for all the patience and kindness shown to me during my stay,” Toney said. “They all truly cared.”
Berdos-Roser emphasized that personalized and compassionate care, along with a warm, supportive environment that empowers and motivates patients through their recovery journey, is a defining characteristic of Regency Park.
“The staff’s dedication to individualized treatment plans, combined with their genuine encouragement, creates a sense of community that enhances both physical and emotional healing,” Berdos-Roser said. “It’s a place where progress is celebrated, and every patient is treated with dignity and respect.”
