Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I have a chronic, non-healing wound?
If a wound has not improved significantly in four weeks or if it has not completed the healing process in eight weeks, it should be considered a chronic, non-healing wound.
What are the causes of chronic wounds?
There are usually many factors involved. Most commonly patients have infections, inflammation, diabetes, inadequate blood supply, chronic swelling of the lower extremities, pressure ulcers, non-healing surgical incision, trauma wounds, burns, damage from radiation therapy, or a history of collagen vascular disease such as scleroderma or rheumatoid arthritis.
Will I have to change my primary care doctor or specialist?
No, in fact, we prefer to work with your physician during your wound treatments. We will keep your doctor informed of your progress. While you are receiving treatment from Hamilton Wound and Hyperbaric Center, you will continue to receive all of your routine care from your primary care physician.
Does insurance cover the services at the Wound Care & Hyperbaric Center?
Medicare, Medicaid, and most health insurance providers cover the services provided by Hamilton Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center.
What can I expect at the first appointment?
Our staff will evaluate your wound and review your medical history to determine all health factors that may be contributing to your wound. Lab work and/or other special tests that provide information about blood and oxygen flow to the wound area may be ordered. The team will then initiate a treatment plan designed specifically for you. You should expect to spend a couple of hours at the Center for your first visit.
What will my treatment involve?
When your test results are in, a treatment plan will be designed based on your special needs. The program will include regular visits to Hamilton Wound and Hyperbaric Center for treatment and evaluation of your progress. If necessary, other healthcare providers may be included in your plan of care to address all the contributing factors to your wound. You and/or your caregiver will be educated in proper techniques in dressing changes, wound protection, and prevention.
