Hamilton Medical Center has been offering CME Activities that are specifically geared towards the family practitioner and the general internist since 1988. Hamilton Medical Center offers Category 1 credit for live activities as scheduled. Activities are geared towards the family practitioner and the general internist but occasionally activities are specific towards the pediatric population or a specific specialty however presented in a way that meets both the general information for the family practitioner and the specific information for the specialist.
The planned program of activities (lectures, conferences, case presentations, workshops, discussion groups, seminars, audiovisual materials, print resources, and self-directed learning) addresses current, changing, and new medical knowledge and technologies, procedures, drugs, and theories as well as the educational needs (knowledge, competence, or performance) that underlie the professional practice gaps of the medical staff. Activities relate to the type and nature of care offered by physicians, findings of performance improvement/quality activities, and expressed the educational needs of physicians. Programs developed are based on content that matches the physicians’ current or potential scope of professional activities, educational formats are activities/interventions are chosen that are appropriate for the setting, objectives, and desired results of the activity. Activities/interventions are developed in the context of desirable physician attributes (e.g., Institute of Medicine (IOM) competencies, The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME®), Competencies).
The CME Program has always been part of Educational Services/Organizational Development at Hamilton Medical Center. Effective July 1, 2019, the program became part of the Residency Program/Internal Medicine.
